A Joliet burglary victim tracked down CDs and DVDs stolen from his house -- and the man who may have played a role in taking them -- by checking a store that buys and sells used goods, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
The burglary occurred at about 2 p.m. Jan. 9, with the victim unwittingly walking past a vehicle containing bags of his stolen possessions before realizing the two burglars were still inside his 500 Logan Ave. home, Demick said.
The thieves fled when they heard the man enter, and the victim was only able to get a partial license plate number on the vehicle they were driving before they drove away, Demick said.
However, because much of what had been taken were CDs and DVDs, the victim had a hunch the suspects might try to sell them at Disc Replay, a Crest Hill store at 1701 N. Larkin Ave. that purchases used music and movies for resale, Demick said.
The man went to the store and was able to verify items that he owned, Demick said. The clerk showed him a receipt that indicated Kaprison Holmes, 27, of 826 E. Jackson, Joliet, had been paid $100 for 57 items, Demick said.
The victim told police what he had learned, and a search of records indicate Holmes was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Acting on a tip that they could find Holmes at a house in the 500 block of Bellarmine, police took him into custody Tuesday on the warrant and later obtained his confession to having sold the stolen items, Demick said. However, he did not admit his role in the burglary.
Holmes was charged with possession of stolen property. He is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
