Romeoville Mayor John Noak took to the airwaves Wednesday to challenge opponent Steve "Mongo" McMichael to a debate.
The two mayoral candidates have been engaged in a somewhat heated battle leading up to the April 9 election.

Noak, the incumbent, challenged McMichael during a Wednesday morning interview on WIND.
“The contrasts between Mr. McMichael and me couldn’t be clearer, and our residents deserve to see those differences side-by-side,” said Noak. “Mr. McMichael has made statements that are raising questions among voters. Debates are the best way to get those and many more questions answered."

On Wednesday afternoon, Noak said he hadn't yet heard whether McMichael would accept his challenge to debate face-to-face.
The McMichael campaign did not immediately respond to a message from Patch Wednesday, but last week, the former Chicago Bear indicated he would consider a debate.

"I don't know," McMichael initially told Patch. "Am I privy to all the information he is being mayor of the town? If not, how can I show up and have an informed opinion on some of the things he's done?"
He went on to add, "The campaign will be discussing a fact-based debate. We're going to talk about it."
