Editor's note: The following is taken from a press release issued by Romeoville Police Detective and Romeoville High School school resource officer Kelley Henson:
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Romeoville High School on Friday, March 15, with more than 40 students and staff members will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer.
St. Baldrick's participants shave their head in solidarity with the approximately 160,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year.
Romeoville High School will host their fourth annual “Peg a Cop” Dodge Ball Tournament on Wednesday, March 13.
The tournament is a prelude to the main event on March 15. Police teams from the Romeoville, Joliet and Plainfield police departments will compete against RHS Students and offer the kids the opportunity to “Peg A Cop” just for the fun of it.
Featured raffle prizes will include a Bears helmet, Bulls and Blackhawks tickets, and area spa gift certificates. The event is open to the public and will take place the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd. The “pegging” will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
Admission is a $1 donation to the foundation. The event will also offer pizza and baked goods for sale.

On March 15, 40 Romeoville High School students and staff members will shave their heads to help Conquer Kids’ Cancer.
The event will be held at the Romeoville High School located at 100 N. Independence Blvd. with an estimated 2,000 in attendance. Head-shaving will begin promptly at 1 p.m.
The “We Baldin” RHS Team is comprised of 110 volunteers, of which 40 will be going “bald for the cure.” Performances will include the RHS cheerleaders, poms, band, madrigals, drum line and surprise shavers and guests.
At the first RHS 2010 St. Baldrick’s event, the “We Baldin Team” consisted of 40 students and staff members who went bald for the cure, raising more than $8,600.
The team topped that in 2011, raising more than $26,500.
The 2012 team surpassed the three-year goal of raising $50,000 for the foundation by raising an additional $22,418. That makes a grand total of over $57,500 for the foundation.
Students have already kicked off the 2013 St. Baldrick's event by honoring 7-year-old Addison Locke (aka “Super Addison"), a Will County resident who is battling liver cancer, by wearing “lady bugs for luck” on Feb. 27 and super hero outfits with “A” for Addison on them to honor her bravery on Feb. 28.
“This is a wakeup call for all of us. Cancer is really serious and it’s happening all over the world,” said RHS Student Leadership Co-President Anthony Balderas. “This isn’t just some show we put on. This is real life.”
