Until this week I was still undecided about the upcoming mayoral race. I had a hard time telling what McMichael stood for besides telling me what I wanted to hear. About a month ago I had a conversation with one of his supporters who approached me about putting signs in my yard. He gave me a lot of slogans about stopping foreclosures and short sales in Hampton Park, but no explanation of how the former football player would achieve this goal. I did some reading about the purchase of Crazy Rock and decided I supported the City purchase of that property but I had not made up my mind for Noak.
Then this week I received a little newspaper-like flyer on my door. In it the McMichael campaign made a series of ludicrous claims, such as that he was persecuted for signing autographs at RomeoFest, made grandiose claims that Noak was playing dirty, and called the Sports Complex a "loser." Mr. McMichael may not know the difference between local politics and a hig- school locker room, but there is more to governance than giving the other guy a swirlie. By the time I finished the leaflet, all I could think of was the following quote from the movie "Billy Madison":
“What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
That newspaper sealed my vote. I’m not so much voting for Mayor Noak as I am voting against Mr. McMichael and his bizzaro scare tactics, exaggerations, and misrepresentations.
