Seventy Valley View Student-Athletes Qualify for IESA State Track Finals

Valley View School District 365U students turned in outstanding performances at Saturday’s Illinois Elementary School Association regional at Brooks Middle School, with nearly seven dozen qualifying for the state finals this weekend in East Peoria.

Brooks Middle School won the eighth grade boys regional championship, and was second in seventh grade boys, and both seventh and eighth grade girls.

Bulldogs’ seventh grade state qualifiers included: Shawn Showalter (1^st) in 100m dash and 200m dash (2^nd); girls 4x100m relay of Alexis Lewis, April Lowery, Tsimba Malonga, Kayla Perry and Taylor Robinson (1^st); boys 4x100m relay team of Gordon Martin, Quenntin Pringle, Showalter, Cameron Mitchell and Chris Bravaro (1^st); Lowery (2^nd) in long jump; Perry (1^st) in 400m dash; Martin (1^st) in 400m dash; the girls 4x200m relay of Amber Armstrong, Autumn Armstrong, Ngozi Edeh, Tiana McClain and Gabby Morganfield; and the girls 4x400m relay of Alexis Baber, Allie Hays, Malonga, Robinson and Emily Romero (1^st).

Brooks eighth grade state qualifiers included: Claire Young (1^st) high jump and (2^nd) in 100m dash; Kameron Vaca (1^st) and Jared Price (2^nd) in long jump; Camille Jordan (2^nd) in long jump; the girls 4x100m relay team of Jordan, Brittany Mercier, Maribeth Murray, Mackenzie Williams and Young (1^st); the boys 4x100m relay of Nana Busia, Joe Coates, Jarvis Crutcher, Jared Price and Josh Simpson (2^nd); and the girls 4x400m relay of Kyra Dickerson, Jordan, Murray, Williams and Young (1^st).

Jane Addams’ seventh grade girls finished 7^th, and 8^th grade girls finished 4^th. The 7^th grade boys were 7^th and the 8^th grade boys were 5^th.

State qualifiers included eighth graders Kiara Watts, Jocelyn Clark, Danielle Cinquelpalmi and Jamie Perakis (1^st) in the 4x100 relay; Perakis (2^nd) in the 400m dash; Watts, Clark, Cinquelpalmi, Perakis and Karli Seay (1^st) in the 4x200 relay; Seay in the 200 meter dash (2^nd); Josh Perakis, Darion Cole, Caleb Robertson, Jacob Perakis, and Zyon Bell (1^st) in the 4x200 relay; Robertson (2^nd) in the 1600m run, Jacob Perakis (2^nd) in the 800; and Bell (1^st) in the 200m dash.

Qualifiers in seventh grade were Joseph Yesufu, Thaji Robinson, Elijah Porter, Clayton Harris, and Juwan Robinson (2^nd) in the 4x200 relay and Allie Platon (1^st) in the shot put.

Humphrey’s girls finished ninth at seventh grade and sixth at eighth grade, while the boys were fourth at seventh grade and second at eighth grade.

State qualifiers include the first place eighth grade boys 4x400 relay team of  Michael Hill, Vashaun Burns, Matthew Merriweather, Tyler Elmore and Jazontae Howard.  Elmore and Howard also finished one-two in the 100 meter dash and Elmore won the 400m dash.

The seventh grade 4x400 relay team also qualified for state with a second place finish. The team consists of Mark Brown, Marshaun Brown, Jaylen Plaxico, Shakeer Davis, and Jesus Bravo. Deja Brown won the long jump and JaShun Harrington finished second in seventh grade shot put. 

Lukancic Middle School’s girls were sixth in the seventh grade division and ninth in eighth grade, while boys finished ninth in both seventh and eighth grades.

State qualifiers for Lukancic were seventh grade division members Jahnetta Jones (2^nd) in the 200m, Marc Wallace (2^nd) in the high Jump, and Alena Hood (1^st) in the discus, as well as 8^th graders Piotr Miskiewicz (1^st) in 100m hurdles and Christian Wagner (2^nd) in discus.

Martinez Middle School’s seventh grade girls finished fifth. State qualifiers were Idara Anyang (2^nd) in the 100m hurdles; the 4x100m relay of Anyang, Sydney Murph, Tomi Vandyke, Alec Henderson and Katie Kerwin (2^nd); and Henderson (1^st) in 100m dash and 200m dash (1^st).
