A Joliet man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 20-month-old girl in May 2006 has been arrested after DNA evidence linked him to the crime, Joliet police said.
Demetrius A. Beal, 27 of 914 Woodruff, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with predatory criminal sexual assault, according to a story in the Joliet Herald News.
Beal was dating the mother of the child at the time but denied any involvement in the assault, the story said. DNA had been taken from the child, but Beal's DNA wasn't in the computer system at the time. It's since been added because of Beal's conviction on a cocaine possession charge, and the link was recently made in the case, the story said.
Beal is being held in the Will County jail on lieu of $350,000 bond.
