Police have arrested a neighbor in the murder of 89-year-old Dorothy Dumyahn, whose body was found Sunday inside her burned Crest Hill home.
Bruce Gimpel, 48, who lived next door to Dumyahn in his brother's 2313 Caton Farm Road house, was taken into custody Thursday morning and charged with first-degree murder, Crest Hill Police Chief Dwayne Wilkerson told the Joliet Herald News.
Gimpel was a suspect early on in the case because of the inconsistent statements he made to police, Wilkerson said. No motive was released as to why Gimpel would stab the elderly woman or set her home on fire to conceal the homicide, according to the story.
The Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force handled the investigation, which had the manpower to canvass the neighborhood and expedite crime lab evidence, Wilkerson told the paper.
