Grinch Stole Your Holiday Spirit? Our List of Christmas Events Will Help

If your inner Grinch is threatening to take over and you need a good dose of holiday spirit, there is no end to the options available in Joliet should you be looking for Santa, Christmas carols or holiday movies.

We know this list is likely incomplete so if you have a public event you'd like to have added, please put the details in the comment box below. And feel free to list it on our calendar events by going to the bottom of the Joliet Patch home page and clicking on "Put an event on the calendar."

  • Light Bulb Ornaments, 6-8 p.m., Joliet Public Library Black Road Branch. For grades 6 to 12; registration required.

DEC. 7

  • Ugly Sweater Party, 7-11 p.m., Joliet Park District Golf Club. Open to those 21 and older.
  • Winter Jazz Concert, 7:30 p.m., Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. Admission: $5 for adults; $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff; $2 for JJC students.
  • Glad Tidings: Christmas at the Motherhouse, 7:30 p.m., St. Joseph's Chapel, University of St. Francis Motherhouse. Description: USF’s choral groups present the sounds of the season in the quaint setting of the USF Motherhouse chapel. Tickets: $10 adults/seniors, $7 alumni and non-USF students, free USF students and staff. Reservations recommended; call 800-735-7500.
  • Joliet Holiday Hop, 5 p.m., The Department, 205 N. Chicago St., or Judge's Bar, 35 E. Cass St. Participants gather at one of these two locations and are taken on a tour of downtown businesses and restaurants, each of which will be offering special deals, door prizes and raffles. Free, but reservations are requested; send them to cam.barnett@jolietdowntown.com.

  • "MadriGala 2012: Something Olde, Something Yule!" 35th Annual Holiday Madrigal Concert, 7:30 p.m., Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Theatre, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. At intermission, hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served on the bridge, prepared by the Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts Department. Admission: $12. Purchase tickets in advance by calling 815-280-2200.
  • Sprite Super Saturday, 10 a.m., Joliet Junior College Early Education Center. Description: Children ages 3-8 will do gingerbread craft activities, read stories about gingerbread men, make a special gingerbread treat and offer a special gingerbread house kit all for the “Family Friendly” price of $20!   • Joliet Junior College Chorale Carols and Chocolate concert, 3 p.m., Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Theatre, 1215 Houbolt Road. Following the concert, a  complimentary buffet of chocolate delights donated by local businesses and by members of the chorale will be served. Admission: $5 for adults; $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff; $2 for JJC students.
  • American Legion Band “The Sounds of Christmas,” 2 p.m., Rialto Square Theatre. The show is free but attendees are asked to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item.
  • Christmas Classics Holiday Concert with the Joliet Symphony Orchestra at the University of St. Francis, 3 p.m., University of St. Francis Sexton Auditorium. Tickets: $10 adults/seniors, $7 alumni and non-USF students, free USF students and staff.

DEC. 10

  • "The Family Stone," a Christmas film starring Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Jessica Park, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Joliet Public Library Main Branch. Free.

  • B.Leegs Holiday Party, 7-11 p.m., Joliet Park District Golf Club. Description: "Stop by and celebrate this holiday season and take part
    in our festive holiday games."

  • Stories with Santa, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Joliet Public Library Black Road Branch. Description: Santa and his helpers will read seasonal stories. Children will have an opportunity to meet Santa and spend time doing activities with their families. Bring your camera! No registration is required. This event is co-sponsored by the Will County Reading Council.
