Easter basket.

Welcome to "Hey Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area.

While many stick to the traditional egg hunt and candy basket formula for Easter celebrations, other parents report the holiday is getting out of hand. Some readers say gifts like Wii video games and other expensive gifts are becoming commonplace additions to Easter baskets. That brings us to this week's question:

How does your family celebrate Easter, and what is included in the modern-day Easter basket?

Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section.

John N. Small gifts and a little candy, we also plant magic jellybeans the night before that sprout into a little lollipop garden overnight. My daughter was quite upset yesterday when she asked the lady at jewel if they had the jellybeans and she said no lol via Joliet Patch Facebook

Michelle S. My kids are 22,21,18 and 17 and we still have an easter egg hunt and they get a basket! via Plainfield Patch Facebook

Bill S. We are starting a new tradition this year....I think this one is really REALLY COOL....but we are going to have a Easter Eve egg hunt....we were stuck in a motel for the last three years...this is our first Easter in awhile that we are going to be able to be creative with the eggs...we are still really limited on the funds to do what we really want to do and still have to put gas in the tank and pay rent and all...but now we are in a house instead of a little flea bag motel now....but we are using plastic eggs with some glow in the dark like glow stick type thing and balling it up and putting it in the egg with positive messages and some candy in it....and hiding them around the house and a few in the back yard the night before Easter....but that is one of the few cool things that we are doing this year....I hope everyone has a awesome Easter like we are going to this year....smile... via Bolingbrook Patch Facebook

Ken R. Doesn't the Easter Bunny handle the baskets? via Oswego Patch Facebook

Vicky S. When my kids were little, I HATED the Easter grass that was always in the bottom of the baskets.... so I changed our tradition, undies became the "grass"! they always needed them and no more mess! Baskets usually consisted of sunglasses, flip flops, bubbles, kite, coloring book and one chocolate bunny. via Yorkville Patch Facebook
